Grew up reading (2) Classical ...

The first post will be dedicated to Bianca Pitzorno as announced.

few days, in fact, we celebrate the "Festa del Papa 'and I thought" What better way to celebrate this holiday if not talking about a great dad? ". And so here I am writing this article. Antonio Gramsci was a great philosopher, a politician, but it was a young father. He was born in Ales, Sardinia, January 22, 1891. On July 19, 1926, just 35 years old, was imprisoned with a sentence 20 years: he had faults, he had not killed or stolen: the only reason why he was imprisoned was "to prevent his brain worked for 20 years." His only crime was to have fought against fascism, against a disease that if not defeated would forever compromise the freedom of his country, the people, and then his sons. fact Antonio Gramsci was the father of two children had by his wife Julia, whom he married in 1923. His two sons, Delio (born 1924) and Giuliano (born August 1926), are forced by the fascist regime to grow up without their father, without having the possibility of being able to embrace men's book: Gramsci in fact died in 1937. Despite his condition, however, Antonio Gramsci never gives up being a father present, even if not physically. Start writing letters to his children proves to be a loving father, a bit 'harsh, but also very sweet. And many of these letters, addressed not only to two beloved children, but also to his wife, his mother and sister Tania, were collected in the book "The Tree of Riccio." In reality the work is posthumous, since the intent of Gramsci, was not to publish the correspondence. The title comes from one of infancy narratives of the philosopher and represents for me one of the finest children's books. In this work are also collected many stories not written by Gramsci, but told the children, their father would have done free. If it were not for fascism to destroy life probably would have told the stories aloud, and unwritten, arrived 10 would put the children to bed once and rolled up their blankets, he would sit beside them to tell him wonderful stories until they closed their eyes and they were blissfully asleep. The work is also known by other titles, which sometimes also collect letters that Gramsci held with the family of origin. Some titles are: "Letters to Children", "Letters 1926-1935," "The letters of the shaft of the scroll," "Letters from Prison ",...

This post I wanted to post yesterday but due to technical problems I posted this morning. And I stopped to think: "It will be only a coincidence that this post is dedicated to Antonio Gramsci, I have it published today, March 17, 2011?"
Today marks the 150th Anniversary of our beloved Italy, and Antonio Gramsci would have been happy to know that we celebrate today as free people, thanks to the struggle of men like him who have never bent before the destroyer .

Is Valium Over The Counter In Canada

Battle of Solferino and San Martino

The Battle of Solferino and San Martino - also remembered as the Battle of June 24 1859 - was fought between the Austrian army and the Franco-Sardinian, ending the second war of Italian independence . In fact, it was a set of separate battles that developed independently and almost simultaneously, on a front of more than 20 km .
It was the largest after the battle of Leipzig of 1813, since I participated in a total of more than 230,000 staff. Is remembered in Italy to be the first concrete step towards national unity and Italian throughout the world for being inspired by Henry Dunant the creation of the International Red Cross . bookshelf 02

Welcome to our section which deals great literary classics, today I want to tell you about one of the works of the famous English writer, who I adore, despite the main theme of his novels is the love.
talks about Jane Austen and Mansfield Park now analyze a book that I read late last year is that I was favorably impressed.

Title: Mansfield Park
Author: Jane Austen
Publication Year: 1814

Plot
This is the third published novel by the author after Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

The novel, like all of Austen, is set in nineteenth century English countryside and starring a middle-class family living in a big house just device called Mansfield Park, but especially the figure of Fanny Prince.
The story begins with the arrival of Fanny, child of eight years in Mansfield Park, which was entrusted by her parents to her aunt, Lady Bertram wife of the landlord, because, as his large family, not was able to keep all children.
The protagonist then lived with his uncles and his four cousins, Tom, Edmund, Maria and Julia, but is treated as a servant, often abused and humiliated, especially other aunt Mrs. Norris. The only one with his kindness win the heart of Fanny and her cousin Edmund who shares his love with the girl's brother, William.
Despite the hardships, difficulties, and her unhappiness, Fanny becomes a virtuous girl liege to duty, very quiet but also intelligent and fond of reading.
The days go on quietly in the house until Mr. Bertram, for working, he went to Antigua and leaves the house in the hands of his eldest son Tom, at this point, dances, visits, especially by young children of the neighborhood, increase dramatically.
At this point introduces two characters, a brother and sister, Henry and Mary Crawford, who scombussolano very life of all inhabitants of Mansfield Park because, while Harry seduces and abandons both sisters Beltram, one of which is already betrothed, Mary and Edmund began to interest each other.
This situation causes a great deal of pain in which Fanny is aware of the disgraceful behavior of Harry against his cousins, and later also against it, and realizes that Mary is not the right woman for Edmund because he finds it too superficial and capricious .
All of this drags on for several months, the situation becomes increasingly difficult and embarrassing, but, as in all the novels of the author, all ends for the best.

Film
In 2000 he was made a film which is an adaptation of the novel.

Also in 1990 he was made a film inspired by the story but set in modern times, this movie is just called Metropolitan.

my review I found this novel very different from the first book I read, Pride and Prejudice, as there is inside the same brio and irony of Austen's female protagonists outlined by .
Fanny is a simple girl, too honest and delicate that you submit to everything that is asked by the family of uncles so calm and resigned, I have virtually all been waiting for a reaction to the novel Fanny's rebellion, even minimal , but it never came, as it is perfectly normal for a girl of low social and adopted. Despite
pomposity of the dialogues and the ups and downs of the story is interesting and fairly heavy at times in others, I must say it was a pleasant reading.
The book is reconstructed in a timely manner the life of the average campagnola English nobility in the nineteenth century, with activities such as horseback riding, plays, festivals, tours, descriptions of clothes, male and female attitudes, courtships, engagements, weddings, etc..
Let's say I found it very comprehensive, and descriptions, especially of the landscapes are really beautiful (I love England!) That introspection of the characters, the only flaws I found were related to the slowness of the narrative .

The next classic!

REVIEW: The Wizard of Light by Trudi Canavan

Hello, today I propose that my review of the first book the new trilogy by Trudi Canavan, author of I've literally loved in his earlier works, The Black Magician Trilogy and published recently in the prequel (The magician's apprentice) that you speak of for some time.

I advise you, before you start reading this book, read another trilogy, or if this is not possible, at least to inform you about the plot of the first three (here the plots) , so that references to the events occurred previously are present from the beginning of the "Wizard of Light" and may make it difficult to complete understanding of history (and I must say that it would be a great sin).

Title: The Spy Mages
Author: Trudi Canavan
Pages: 504
Price: € 19.60
Publisher: North

Plot
It was not easy for the young Lorkin grow in the shade of his mother, the sorceress Sone, famous the kingdom of Kyralia reintroduced for the powerful black magic. It was equally difficult to deal with the memory of his father, who died before he was born: Akkarin Lord, the man who, twenty years before, had managed to foil the invasion of the evil wizards Sachaka, thus ushering in a period of peace and prosperity. It is therefore to demonstrate its value Lorkin volunteers to accompany Dannyl Lord, the new ambassador, his rival in the kingdom, where the population still hatching a deep resentment towards kyraliani. Although the diplomatic mission provides for only a period of study on ancient legends sachakane, the trip promises to be fraught with danger. Upon their arrival, in fact, the two magicians received a cold, and soon, they become victims of strange and disturbing "incidents." But Lorkin Dannyl Lord and do not know that the reason for such hostility is not the resentment and rivalries that divide the two kingdoms, but the ambassador's own research, which could lead him on the trail of an ancient secret, a secret that would upset the 'whole world of magic ...

My review
The story is set twenty years after the conclusion of the first saga and the characters are the same people and now one of the two magicians of the kingdom of blacks Kyralia, Lokrin, his son, already an adult, must face his youth often compared to his father Akkarin former Supreme Lord, is still Dennyl historian and friend Cery the thief who had worked to defeat in the war happened twenty ' years before, the Ichan (Wizards of blacks outcasts Sachaka, Kyralia opposing nation) had been still working in the slums.
short, everything seems more or less remained the same in the past, the Mages Guild, Thieves, slums in continuous confrontation and opposition.

After the presentation of the initial situation, the story branches out along two different paths that are told in parallel, there Cery that with the help of people and Regin investigating the notorious hunter who kills for years the thief of the slums and who may have murdered his family and with Dennyl Lokrin that act as ambassadors to Sachaka.
The story involves the most is certainly the second, as the adventures of Lokrin alien in this country, so different which puts him in his difficulties and that immediately after his arrival, endangers the life of the young wizard, as between a very special group of rebels, there are black witches who want revenge on an old insult made by his father Akkarin against them, all that killing his son.
Lokrin is then forced to flee, to hide, disguise, accompanied by a beautiful girl whose provocative and often do not trust completely, which will lead to the place where the situation can be resolved or in a peaceful manner, but with the risk that the young man is trapped forever in Sachaka, or death of the same Lokrin.
Although this is the first book in the series, I had the impression that it is episodic, certainly leaves many issues unresolved, however, does not end with the feeling that something is missing.

This novel is much more mature and complex is on the plot, both for the introspection of the characters than the previous all is well constructed and organized, and although I found the first one hundred and fifty pages a bit 'flat , going on in the story got me involved. The style of
Canavan is quiet but very slowly manages to wrap and carry the reader into his world, making even know the innermost thoughts of the characters.

By an inevitable comparison with the previous trilogy, I must say that I missed quite the female lead, and also not described Lokrin training, is already almost a man who has finished her studies and tries its way in the world, away from the shadow of her mother who is ever present to his father.
I do not know exactly what to make of this new trilogy, but since I have full confidence nell'autrice, anxiously awaiting the result and with high expectations, hoping it will not be disappointed.

awards three and a half stars.

The second book in the trilogy, entitled The Rogue will be published in Anglo-May 5, 2011, in the coming days I will write a preview about this eagerly awaited book.

Fantasy Sagas: The Black Magician Trilogy

Hello, today I will introduce a whole new section dedicated to Fantasy (all types), dealing with the legends more or less widespread and long, in order to clarify both the reading order is to rearrange the ideas.

Une of thing I find both positive and negative fantasy sagas is their length ranging from three to ten books in a trilogy of some fifteen volumes epoch-making cycles, and of course, especially with regard to the works being published, it can sometimes be difficult to remember the events of a specific volume before starting to read the next one.
For this I offer this section, where you just speak in general terms of the sagas I've read or am reading in order to tidy up my ideas that is yours and maybe you discover sagas unknown but deserve for me attention.

Today I want to talk about the first saga of Trudi Canavan The Black Magician Trilogy .
I chose this trilogy because at the end of February has been published the first volume of the second saga of the same author, and first to offer my review of "Light of the Magicians" I felt it necessary to show the previous volumes, so as to understand the development of history, at least so generic.
Today I will propose just the textures and covers with my personal evaluation of generic, because I'm going, now that the exam period is finally over, re-read the trilogy of the black magician and make timely reviews of the three books that will go for now.
