REVIEW: The Wizard of Light by Trudi Canavan

Hello, today I propose that my review of the first book the new trilogy by Trudi Canavan, author of I've literally loved in his earlier works, The Black Magician Trilogy and published recently in the prequel (The magician's apprentice) that you speak of for some time.

I advise you, before you start reading this book, read another trilogy, or if this is not possible, at least to inform you about the plot of the first three (here the plots) , so that references to the events occurred previously are present from the beginning of the "Wizard of Light" and may make it difficult to complete understanding of history (and I must say that it would be a great sin).

Plot
It was not easy for the young Lorkin grow in the shade of his mother, the sorceress Sone, famous the kingdom of Kyralia reintroduced for the powerful black magic. It was equally difficult to deal with the memory of his father, who died before he was born: Akkarin Lord, the man who, twenty years before, had managed to foil the invasion of the evil wizards Sachaka, thus ushering in a period of peace and prosperity. It is therefore to demonstrate its value Lorkin volunteers to accompany Dannyl Lord, the new ambassador, his rival in the kingdom, where the population still hatching a deep resentment towards kyraliani. Although the diplomatic mission provides for only a period of study on ancient legends sachakane, the trip promises to be fraught with danger. Upon their arrival, in fact, the two magicians received a cold, and soon, they become victims of strange and disturbing "incidents." But Lorkin Dannyl Lord and do not know that the reason for such hostility is not the resentment and rivalries that divide the two kingdoms, but the ambassador's own research, which could lead him on the trail of an ancient secret, a secret that would upset the 'whole world of magic ...

My review
The story is set twenty years after the conclusion of the first saga and the characters are the same people and now one of the two magicians of the kingdom of blacks Kyralia, Lokrin, his son, already an adult, must face his youth often compared to his father Akkarin former Supreme Lord, is still Dennyl historian and friend Cery the thief who had worked to defeat in the war happened twenty ' years before, the Ichan (Wizards of blacks outcasts Sachaka, Kyralia opposing nation) had been still working in the slums.
short, everything seems more or less remained the same in the past, the Mages Guild, Thieves, slums in continuous confrontation and opposition.

After the presentation of the initial situation, the story branches out along two different paths that are told in parallel, there Cery that with the help of people and Regin investigating the notorious hunter who kills for years the thief of the slums and who may have murdered his family and with Dennyl Lokrin that act as ambassadors to Sachaka.
The story involves the most is certainly the second, as the adventures of Lokrin alien in this country, so different which puts him in his difficulties and that immediately after his arrival, endangers the life of the young wizard, as between a very special group of rebels, there are black witches who want revenge on an old insult made by his father Akkarin against them, all that killing his son.
Lokrin is then forced to flee, to hide, disguise, accompanied by a beautiful girl whose provocative and often do not trust completely, which will lead to the place where the situation can be resolved or in a peaceful manner, but with the risk that the young man is trapped forever in Sachaka, or death of the same Lokrin.
Although this is the first book in the series, I had the impression that it is episodic, certainly leaves many issues unresolved, however, does not end with the feeling that something is missing.

This novel is much more mature and complex is on the plot, both for the introspection of the characters than the previous all is well constructed and organized, and although I found the first one hundred and fifty pages a bit 'flat , going on in the story got me involved. The style of
Canavan is quiet but very slowly manages to wrap and carry the reader into his world, making even know the innermost thoughts of the characters.

By an inevitable comparison with the previous trilogy, I must say that I missed quite the female lead, and also not described Lokrin training, is already almost a man who has finished her studies and tries its way in the world, away from the shadow of her mother who is ever present to his father.
I do not know exactly what to make of this new trilogy, but since I have full confidence nell'autrice, anxiously awaiting the result and with high expectations, hoping it will not be disappointed.

awards three and a half stars.

The second book in the trilogy, entitled The Rogue will be published in Anglo-May 5, 2011, in the coming days I will write a preview about this eagerly awaited book.
