Plot

It is May 14, 1612 when half of Rome runs left in classrooms of the Inquisition for the expected day of trial on the complaint that the father of Artemisia Gentileschi, a brilliant young artist, has filed with the Pope Paul V . In the damp and dark of Tor di Nona, Orazio Gentileschi's words reverberate in the minds of everyone, "Agostino Tassi has deflowered my daughter and broke Artemisia forced to repeated acts of carnal, dangerous even for me, Orazio Gentileschi, painter and citizen of Rome, poor plaintiff, so that I could not get the fair return from his talent as a painter. "
Set in the beautiful scenery of Florence, Seventeenth-century Rome and Naples, populated with historical characters such as Cosimo de 'Medici and Galileo, The Passion of Artemisia narrates the extraordinary adventure of the first recognized and celebrated painter in art history: Aartemisia Gentileschi, the woman who, in a world hostile to women , managed to impose his art and to strongly defend his vision of love and life.

My Review
The story begins in a rather brutal description of the process in which Orazio Gentileschi, Artemisia's father, accused another painter, Tassi, of repeatedly raping his daughter but eighteen in fact the reason the complaint was a wrong suffered by rates on a painting.
The life of the protagonist will be greatly affected by this process that will tarnish his reputation, will question his sincerity, and above all deeply humbled will highlight the neglect of his father against him.
Rome to escape from a male and puritanical, is forced to marry another painter in Florence, Artemisia and here is hoping to have found love and peace but also the opportunity to continue to paint and to make known his deeds .
Thanks to his efforts and the proximity of his daughter, Palmira, succeeds in entering into Florence, the first woman to be successful, and from this point on, the friction will begin with the husband who feels the need to stay in his shadow to be known.
will know many famous clients who admire her work and she became more famous, but the meeting that the change will be more tied to the figure of Galileo Galilei.
I found this book beautiful, really beautiful.
no surprises, no excessive pathos, just the simple story of Artemisia Gentileschi, a girl first, then a mother and woman, which challenges the concept of the time that women should only have children and be good wives, to become painter.
The story of dreams and hopes are often disappointed by this young woman being plunged into a brutal life in a difficult, winding through the complex choices and consequences inimaginabili.
The feelings described in this book are very strong contrast, anger, shame and sense of injustice associated with the rape and the behavior assumed by the father at this juncture, to the strong hope and always tied to this' love, painting, friendship.
But as the title itself is a passion for painting that drives the protagonist in its decisions, every picture she has painted in a part of the author, a detailed study of human nature from his feelings, all the female figure is fully and completely. Artemisia in her paintings wanted to show the beauty in key viewed totally feminine.

I must say that I find the cover of the new publishing house Beat very beautiful.
A historical novel really recommended to be assigned four stars
